Precautions for Hot Weather Concreting Effects

1) Call a preplacement meeting to go over the current strategy for placing concrete in hot weather as well as the basic concrete placement check list.

2) When the temperature is low, either place the concrete in the early hours of the day or late in the afternoon.

Hot weather concreting effects and problems

3) Maintaining the proper functioning of the concrete plant, mixers, and vibrators is important since, in hot weather, equipment failure resulting in intermediate concrete stoppage can be far more dangerous than in mild weather.

4) By shading the fine and coarse aggregate stocks or misting them with water, you can keep them as cold as feasible.

5) Painting the mixers white.

6) Concrete from plants is poured into mixers after they have been cooled by a water sprinkler.

Hot-weather concrete construction

7) The amount of time between the start of mixing and the start of placement should be kept to a minimum because during the time the concrete is in the mixer, several things happen, including cement hydration, temperature rise, slump loss, aggregate grinding, and the gain of air content.

8) If the mixers are required to deliver the concert via a route with a significant volume of traffic, the placement should be scheduled during a period of lower traffic load. Establishing good communication between the job site and plant is essential to minimizing time. Additionally, the dispatching of the mixers and the rate of concrete placement should be well coordinated.

Precautions for hot weather concreting

9) Paint the water tanks a white color.

10) Replace some percentage of the mixing water with ice.

11) Use the high slump (170 +/- 40 mm) or flow mixes.

12) Use the fresh concrete at a temperature below 32 °C.

13) Admixture usage: water-reducing and set-retarding admixtures that satisfy ASTM C 494, Type D specifications are commonly used in hot weather. They can be added to concrete in different ratios and in conjunction with SP/PC admixtures so that, as temperature rises, higher dosages of the admixture can be used to obtain a uniform time of setting.

14) Replace cement with pozzolanic elements such as FA and GGBS to regulate the temperature of the concrete at low hydration.

15) To prevent cracks, effective curing must be implemented on time in accordance with the project specification.
